The tunic was the most worn garment for Roman men and women in Roman times. For men, the tunic was shorter than for women. It is a simple, practical, and everyday garment that covered the upper body. With a belt, a silhouette and fit were created. For wealthier Roman men, their high status was visible in the tunic. It was longer (down to the knees) and had a purple stripe. The tunica manicata is a late Roman tunic for Roman citizens.
In antiquity, the Celts also wore a tunic, which was a universal garment and was found among Celts in the Hallstatt and La Tene periods and among the Gauls and the Germanic peoples living on the edges or within the Roman Empire. On the other hand, the Romans also adopted clothing from the Celts. Unlike the Romans, the Celts wore trousers. A higher status among the Celts was probably indicated by expensive colour clothing such as blue, and a more expensive fabric.
