Large selection of mail rings, for making mail shirts, voiders and coifs

At CelticWebMerchant you will find riveted and unrivetted mail rings for making mail shirts, voiders, coifs, and other mail components. We sell flat and round rings that are riveted with round or wedge shaped rivets.

Which type of chainmail shirt in which period

The Celts or Gauls invented the chainmail shirt. The Romans quickly adopted the chainmail shirt and used it throughout the Roman Empire. Until the 15th century, mail shirts, coifs, and components were mainly made of flat or round rings with round rivets. In the 15th century, mail shirts and voiders were sometimes also made with wedge shaped rivets. Especially in the region of Germany and the Netherlands. As cavalry and infantry increasingly wore knightly armor, they used more mail components such as the chain mail skirt and voiders to cover openings in the armor.

Unrivetted mail, for Medieval festivals, LARP and theater

With unrivetted mail, you can make mail components faster. For example, you can make a coif in just one evening. Unrivetted mail shirts look lifelike, but are a cheaper alternative to the more expensive riveted versions. These are ideal LARP mail shirts where body protection is not necessary. They are lightweight and can be worn for hours, making them ideal for Medieval festivals and LARP events.
