What is the best way to repair a chainmail shirt?

If you wear a chainmail shirt, it is inevitable that some rings will come loose. Fortunately, a chainmail shirt is easy to repair.

We sell various types of chainmail, but they are all made in the 1-to-4 construction. This means that 1 ring closes around 4 other rings.

Unriveted chainmail shirt

If you have an unriveted chainmail shirt, you can repair the chainmail shirt using chain mail rings and pliers. You simply place a new ring where it is needed and close the ring with the pliers.

Riveted chainmail shirt

A riveted chainmail shirt works largely the same as an unriveted chainmail shirt. The only difference is the rivet.

Just like with unriveted chainmail, you can simply place a new ring where it is needed and close it with pliers. When the ring is bent closed, you need to place the rivet with a special riveting pliers.

This is a bit more work than with a unrivetted chainmail shirt, but the advantage of a riveted chainmail shirt is that the rings are less likely to come loose. This is especially useful in the armpits, where there is often more friction.
