About us

As humans, we are shaped by the systems and norms of modern society. When we step outside these boundaries, we are often seen as "strange" or "different." But thanks to the rise of the internet, information is now accessible to everyone, allowing us to question why we live the way we do—and whether this is truly the most fulfilling way to live.
LARP, re-enactment, living history, bushcraft, cosplay and fantasy offer an escape from the routine of modern life—a chance to reconnect with the way our ancestors lived. These activities bring us closer to nature, to stories, and to age-old traditions. They stimulate creativity and offer a more meaningful, calmer life rhythm focused on what truly matters. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world, many of us feel disconnected from our heritage—through these practices, we try to reconnect the past and the present.

A person without history is like a tree without roots. By understanding our past, we gain a deeper insight into our modern life and can live with more purpose and meaning. Although modern life certainly has its advantages, it also has flaws—especially when it comes to meaning and fulfillment. By looking at history, we can free ourselves from the limiting expectations of society. We can choose who we want to be and what we stand for. With the freedom of modern life, the wisdom of our ancestors, and the creativity of fantasy, we can shape our own stories.
World-building (wereldbouw) has been part of human culture for centuries. Our ancestors created myths and legends—such as the Edda and Beowulf—to explain the world around them. Today, world-building still plays an important role in enriching our lives, as seen in the works of fantasy authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin. In role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, we build upon the medieval world, supplemented with fantasy elements such as elves and dwarves. High fantasy, in all its forms, has always been a part of our shared history.
These mythical creatures, although fictional, are rooted in the cultures and stories of our ancestors and have evolved with us. Telling stories inspired by real historical events is also an ancient tradition. All science fiction and fantasy ultimately find their origins in our understanding of the past—which serves as a foundation for new worlds. History and fantasy are, and have always been, intertwined.

We are #HistoryRebels: our core values for a better life
Freedom
At Celtic WebMerchant, we believe in the freedom to be who you want to be. True freedom means embracing your individuality, even if it means deviating from societal norms. Hobbies like LARP, reenactment, living history, and fantasy festivals may be misunderstood by some, but they are gaining more respect as people recognize the value of self-expression. You have the right to ignore others' opinions about your appearance or lifestyle, as long as you harm no one. Embrace your creativity and write your own story.
Meaning
Modern life offers many conveniences, but it also brings challenges—including a sense of emptiness. Many people today feel disconnected from a deeper purpose. The idea of "fate" or "destiny," which guided our ancestors, has largely disappeared from modern thought. This disconnection can create a gap between what you truly want in life and what society expects of you. More and more people are trying to rediscover meaning in their lives. A good starting point is to focus on what truly matters to you. If you have long wanted to discover a new hobby or feel disconnected from your current environment—remember: it is never too late to change paths and find the meaning you seek.
Depth
In today's world, many people experience a lack of genuine depth in their daily interactions. It sometimes seems as if society is driven by materialism, superficial conversations, and a growing distance from our ancestors. To bring more depth into your life, it is important to surround yourself with people who share your interests and passions. Take the time to explore topics that fascinate you, leather about your ancestors, and enrich your conversations. This way, deeper and more fulfilling connections arise.
Live slower
Due to the demands of modern life, many of us have lost touch with a slower, more conscious rhythm of living. Work, obligations, and daily hustle often leave little room for relaxation or family. Yet, it is important to take time for what truly matters—whether it is spending time with loved ones, enjoying your hobbies s, or simply being present in the moment.
Return to nature
Our ancestors lived in close connection with nature, which allowed them to understand it better and live in harmony with the world around them. However, in modern times, we have become increasingly distant from that bond. Nature has become a backdrop, a background, while we focus our attention on the hustle and bustle of daily life – and in doing so, we lose a part of our humanity.
Nature is a peaceful refuge against the chaos of the city, filled with people who no longer feel connected to our way of life. Whether you are participating in a LARP event, immersing yourself in another time and place, or taking a solo walk through the rugged landscapes of Scotland or Sweden – it is important to spend time in nature. These moments not only help us escape the hectic pace of modern society but also reconnect us with our roots – the elements that shaped our ancestors. Nature reminds us of who we are and where we come from.
Strength
Our ancestors lived under harsh conditions, where survival was never a given – many did not even reach adulthood. Life was a constant struggle, with dangers around every corner. In those times, strength, resilience, and willpower were not just virtues – they were essential for survival. The ability to persevere and overcome adversity was revered, and these qualities were passed down from generation to generation. Let the strength of your ancestors be a source of inspiration in your own life. When faced with challenges, remember that you carry the same determination and willpower that helped them survive against all odds. Their legacy is a testament to human resilience – and by drawing on their strength, you can face the obstacles in your life with courage and perseverance. Just as they adapted and thrived in an uncertain world, you too can find the resilience to overcome your own battles.

The Celtic WebMerchant Team
Everyone at Celtic WebMerchant shares a deep passion for LARP, history, re-enactment, cosplay and/or fantasy. Whether it involves answering emails or packing orders – every task is carried out with care and enthusiasm by our specialists with over 20 years of experience. Our staff is paid according to the Dutch retail collective labor agreement. Unlike many LARP and re-enactment stores, which often use unpaid "volunteers" at festivals or in the shop, we do not support such practices. Even those who work with us temporarily, like models, receive fair compensation for their time. By choosing Celtic WebMerchant When you shop, you not only support quality products but also fellow hobbyists like yourself.
Additionally, three-quarters of our team is neurodiverse, with a special focus on people with ADHD and autism, allowing their talents and specializations to flourish. We strive for an inclusive and stimulating work environment for people who do not feel at home in the anonymous world of large corporations and mass culture.
Projects
Over the years, we have participated in many large and small projects – from museums to films and from escape rooms to living history. Below you will find a small selection of our clients:
