Product description
Half-gauntlets, or demi-gauntlets, were the first type of plate armor gloves and were used from the second half of the 14th century. These gloves were worn in combination with leather or mail gloves.
Demi-gauntlets were relatively inexpensive and provided excellent protection for the most vulnerable parts of the body. For this reason, they were worn by all social classes. Another advantage of demi-gauntlets is that they are lighter than full gauntlets and allow for greater freedom of movement. They were very popular and continued to be used into the 15th century.
These replica half-gauntlets are based on an early 15th-century original. The original is now part of the collection at the National Museum in Nuremberg.
These demi-gauntlets are made from 1.6 mm thick steel. They are supplied without leather gloves, which can be ordered separately in different styles and thicknesses. These gauntlets are designed with re-enactment in mind.
