Product description
Axes like this one began to appear from the second half of the 15th century. Around this time, armor was becoming increasingly effective, creating a need for weapons that could penetrate the gaps in plate armor. At the back, this axe features a spike, similar to that of a war hammer.
The main weapon, the axe head, has a tapered, rounded edge that ends in a hook. The hook could be used to pull opponents off horseback, while the rounded edge keeps the weight of this axe lower than that of a standard woodcutting axe.
At the back of the shaft, this axe has a steel point, which could also serve as a thrusting weapon in case of emergency. This type of axe was used by both cavalry and infantry. Axes like this remained in use until the late 16th century, and were even still used during the English Civil War.
This battle axe is 73 cm long, with a blade measuring up to 20 cm in length and 14.5 cm in width. It weighs approximately 7.5 kg.
