Product description
Axes like this appeared from the second half of the 15th century. Battle axes such as this were developed in response to the increasing effectiveness of plate armor. The axe blade tapers in a rounded shape, reducing weight and making the weapon lighter than a standard felling axe. The blade features decorative punchwork, which also reduces weight without compromising the quality of the weapon. The blade continues onto the haft with metal strips (langets) to protect the handle.
The steel points on either side of this battle axe are used to parry enemy weapons. On the opposite side of the blade, the axe has a hammer head, similar to those on polearms, designed to allow the weapon to function not only as an axe but also as a blunt weapon. The hammer head is divided into four points, providing extra grip on plate armor.
This is a sturdy, modern decorative version. It measures 44 cm in total length, has a blade length of 19 cm, and weighs 950 grams.
