Product description

This belt is based on an original from the 10th century. It is suitable for belt straps with a width of 3 cm and it measures 2,5 x 4,5 cm. Belt ends were used for protection and decoration of the belt. It is silver coloured.

This belt end has the same shape and decoration of the bronze scabbard mount found in York, England. It is decorated with an openwork S-shaped animal with tendril intertwining in the late Jellinge style. On top a triangular animal head can be seen.

Scandinavian warriors carrying their swords in scabbards with mounts decorated in the Jellinge style travelled all over Europe. The shape of this object allows it to be used as both a belt end or scabbard mount.
