Product description
The sabre is an evolution of the European backsword, a straight, single-edged sword with a basket. It often has a slightly curved blade and a quite large knuckle-guard. Cavalry sabres however were straight and two-edged. Originally a 10th century Hungarian cavalry weapon the sabre had its highlight during the 19th century in the Napoleontic Wars and the American Civil War.
This British sabre has a steel scabbard. It has a length of 109 cm, a blade of 94 cm and a maximum width of 3 cm. It weighs 1,5 kg. The type was developed in 1827 and after some adjustments it is still in use.
