This bust is a replica of a large bust of emperor Constantine the Great. The original is part of the collection of the archaeological museum of Napels. These statues were often painted to make them appear lifelike.
Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus (Naissus, 27 february approx. 280 - Ancyrona, 22 may 337), known as Constantine I the Great, was a Roman emperor. In july 306 he was proclaimed imperator and Augustus by his troops. From 308 onwards he was accepted as imperator and Augustus. Because of his military victories he each time reigned a larger part of the Roman Empire until he became an absolute ruler from 342 on.
This bust is completely handmade of alabaster and its height is 17 cm. It is delivered including a black pedestal.
