Product description

Glauberg in the German Hesse was the seat of the Celtic principality between the late Hallstatt and early La Tène period. In Glauberg findings from a great oppidium (Celtic form of urbanization) were excavated and several tumuli were found. The great riches which were buried with the people in the tumuli are striking.

This statue was placed on one of the tumuli that is presumed to be of a Celtic prince or chief. The statue dates from the 5th century BC and depicts the owner with a helmet, round shield and possibly a chest cuirass.

This bust is made of plaster alabaster and has a marble pedestal. It measures 27 x 20 cm. Presumably these statues were painted as was the case with Greek, Etruscan (and later Roman) statues.
