Product description

This cuirass is based on the well-known late 14th-century armor from the collection of Churburg Castle. Armor components in this style were used across Europe from the late 14th to the early 15th century. This armor style clearly represents a transition from the early 14th-century coat of plates to full plate armor. In the early 14th century, plate armor initially emerged as reinforcement over the hauberk, with separate armor pieces worn on top. With the introduction of the Churburg style, however, plate armor became the primary form of body protection.

The cuirass was often combined with bascinets, such as the pig-faced bascinet or the hinged-visor bascinet, although the kettle hat remained popular. By this period, full arm and leg armor was already in use, with a preference for hourglass gauntlets or demi-gauntlets. Under armor of this style, a chainmail haubergeon was worn for added protection.

This cuirass is made of several steel sheets that are fastened to each other with leather pieces. This allows it to be well adapted to size and can also be worn over gambesons and hauberks.
