Product description

This type of axe head is classified as Petersen Type B. The blade features a distinctive bearded shape, with an extended lower section. Axes of this type are often found in contexts related to warfare. They were produced at least between circa 800 and 900 AD, but possibly as early as the 7th century.

The “beard”—the downward-extending part of the blade—provided a larger cutting surface without increasing the weight of the axe. This design allowed the user to grip the haft just behind the head for woodworking or shaping tasks. In combat, the beard offered tactical advantages as well, such as hooking or pulling an opponent’s shield or weapon.

This semi-sharp axe is made from tempered 1065 carbon steel with a hardness of 48–52 HRC. It is perfect for Viking reenactments, Vikings or Last Kingdom cosplay, or as a decorative piece for your collection. Blunted, it is suitable for reenactment battles; sharpened, it can also be used for chopping wood.
