Doublets were extremely popular in the 16th century. Around this time, a leather jacket or vest was sometimes worn over the doublet. This type of doublet was worn from the first half of the 16th century onwards.
They provided extra protection against the cold while allowing good freedom of movement. Doublets were worn during the Dutch Golden Age and in the time of Elizabeth I of England.
This doublet is decorated with black satin stitching. It features cords that can be used to fasten it and can also be worn half open, which is convenient when wearing a large, decorated shirt underneath.
