Product description
These gallnuts are dried and can be used directly. The crushed gallnuts can be used for making ink. This technique was already used far before our era and even until the 17th century.
Put old screws or nails in a bowl with vinegar or another sour liquid. Let it rest for 3-4 days, until it bubbles less. By pouring the mix through a coffee filter, you will obtain liquid iron sulfate. Cook 80 grams of gallnuts in 500 ml water. Use gum arabic to bind the sulfate and the gallnut juice. Please note: do not use too much iron sulfate, because ink which is too sour will bite through the parchment! The ink will become darker after it is exposed to oxigen for a longer period of time.
