Product description

Cuirasses like this one emerged during the late Gothic period (1440–1500). The Gothic style was characterized by sharp, highly decorated forms. The design of this type of cuirass followed Burgundian fashion, ending around the thighs—just like the fashionable doublet of the time. Cuirasses of this style were often worn together with chainmail voiders, an aventail (standard or bishop’s mantle), and a chainmail skirt (gousset). The arms and legs were fully armoured, and the look was complemented by pointed sabatons that imitated the shape of poulaines from contemporary clothing fashion. Gothic armour was frequently worn in combination with a sallet and bevor, though the kettle hat also remained popular.

This cuirass features an integrated plackart that provides extra reinforcement to the lower section, creating the characteristic central ridge. For added mobility, it is equipped with faulds (articulated plates at the front) and culets (articulated plates at the lower back), allowing greater freedom of movement for the legs—a particularly welcome feature when riding. The lower edge of the faulds includes tassets that provide additional protection for the upper thighs.

The armour is made from 1.2 mm thick steel, so it is not suitable for reenactment battles. However, it can be worn as part of a costume, for LARP, or used as a display piece. It can be combined with any helmet or leg armour of your choice. Constructed from several articulated plates, it is highly flexible and comfortable to wear, and it can be adjusted to fit using the leather straps.
