Greaves were worn over chainmail chausses and provided an extra layer of protection for the lower legs of mounted knights. The development of greaves coincided with the emergence of the shorter heater shield or knight’s shield, which replaced the older, taller kite shields that were designed to protect the rider’s leg. Heavy shields were cumbersome in combat, making the combination of greaves and the heater shield a significant innovation.

This armor is designed to be worn in combination with other pieces from the Gustav armor line. In addition to providing protection on the LARP field, it also offers an authentic medieval appearance and can be easily paired with other armor components.
