Product description
Greaves were worn over mail chausses and provided an additional layer of protection for the lower legs of mounted knights. The development of greaves coincided with the emergence of the shorter heater shield or knight’s shield, which replaced the older, taller kite shields designed to protect the rider’s leg. Heavy shields were cumbersome in combat, making the combination of greaves and the heater shield a significant innovation.
This armor is made in the same style as other pieces from the Harald armor line. These lower leg protectors can also be worn separately, over a gambeson and/or chainmail hauberk.
