Product description
Greaves were worn over chainmail chausses and provided an extra layer of protection for the lower legs of mounted knights. The development of greaves coincided with the emergence of the shorter heater shield or knight’s shield, which replaced the older, taller kite shields designed to protect the rider’s leg. Heavy shields were cumbersome in combat, making the combination of greaves and the heater shield a significant innovation.
These are a pair of handmade greaves, 1.2 mm thick. They extend smoothly over the shoes, also providing protection for the ankles. Two straps allow for easy adjustment to fit perfectly.
