In the beginning of the 18th century the two princes Asano Naganori and Kamei Korechika were requested by the chamberlain of the Shogun, Kira Kozuke, to prepare a ceremonial reception for the ambassadors of the emperor. Kira Kozuke expected generous gifts. Asano however refused and as a result the master of ceremony was badly informed. Feeling dishonoured, Asano attacked Kira with his knife. Kira survived the attack with just a small wound. Asano committed Seppuku (ritual suicide).
Under Asanos followers were 47 Samurais who became Ronin (samurai without master) because of this suicide. Soon they knew that this would mean their death and they designed a plan to kill the corrupt master of ceremony.
This event is an example of infinite loyalty and trust. The John Lee 47 Ronin katana is made in honour of these circumstances and is based on the originals that were used in Japan around the beginning of the 18th century.
This katana is handmade and has a razor sharp blade. The blade is made of 9260 carbon steel with a 55 HRC hardness. The blade is made in the Shobu-Zukuri style.
The grip is made of wood and wrapped round with shagreen and rough woven cotton. The grip is made in the Hineri-Maki style. The wooden scabbard is made in the Kuroro style and decorated with Kojiri (buffalo horn).
This katana is 72 cm long with a blade of 32,5 cm and weighs 1300 grams.
