Product description

This katana is dedicated to Takamori Saigo who is perceived as the last samurai. He fought for the preservation of Japanese traditions and heritage, but did not lose his loyalty to the Japanese emperor. In 1877 he fell in battle (or committed seppuku) during the battle of Shiroyama.

This late katana is based on 19th centur originals. It has a blade made in the Shinogi-Zukuri style with Hohlkehle (Bo-Hi). The blade is made of 1045 carbon steel with a 55 HRC hardness. The blade is razor sharp and finished with Hamon.

The grip is made in the classical Hineri-Maki style. It is wrapped round with shagreen and rough woven cotton. The grip is provided with two bamboo stifts (Mekugi) with which it is fastened to the tang (nakago).

This katana is delivered including a wooden scabbard. The scabbard is made in the Kuroro style.

This katana is 101 cm long with a 73 cm blade and weighs 1000 grams.
