Product description

Axes like this appeared from the second half of the 15th century. Around this time, armor was becoming increasingly effective, creating a need for weapons capable of striking through the gaps in plate armor. Axes like this were used by both aristocratic cavalry and infantry.

The back of this axe features a point, similar to that of a war hammer. The main weapon, the axe blade, has a sloped, rounded edge ending in a hook. The hook could be used to pull opponents from their horses, while the rounded edge helped keep the weight of the axe lower than that of a typical felling axe. Axes like these remained in use until the late 16th century and were even still used during the English Civil War.
