Product description

This medieval brooch in the shape of a bust was made after a medieval pilgrim's sign and bears the inscription "Amours". The model for this medieval brooch was a pilgrim's sign from Amsterdam, which dates from 1350 to 1449 AD. The original is now in the possession of the Beuningen family collection. The word "Amours" appears on several medieval badges or pilgrim signs and translates as love, which suggests its use as a love offering between two lovers. The medieval brooch measures 3 x 2.8 cm and has a sturdy needle on the back. An additional eyelet allows the brooch to be worn as well as a pendant. The brooch is made of high-quality bronze.

The medieval signs with the inscription Amours are a group of representations of love, which were designed with love signs such as crowned hearts, with chaste busts, with flowers and the like, i.e. varieties of courtly love, which were also adopted by lower social classes in the late Middle Ages and represented in a generally understandable iconography.
