Product description
A halberd is a two-handed pole weapon that was widely used in the 14th and 15th centuries. It features an axe-shaped blade with a point on top, mounted on a long wooden shaft. The back of the axe typically has a hook or thorn, used to catch opponents, especially mounted fighters.
The halberd was the primary weapon of the early Swiss armies in the 14th and early 15th centuries. Later, the Swiss added a spike to improve defense against knights and cavalry attacks.
In the 16th century, halberds became increasingly ornate. This halberd features engravings. By the late 16th century, these weapons were mainly carried by non-commissioned officers as a special addition to the pike block. Halberds continued to serve a ceremonial role in European armies into the 17th century. This halberd has a long point, allowing it to function as a pike as well. The claw-shaped hook on the back of the weapon is designed to pull cavalrymen off their horses. The tassels on this halberd originally served to channel blood away from the shaft, ensuring a good grip even in the heat of battle. By the 16th century, they also acquired a decorative function.
When you order this halberd, it is delivered in parts with a wooden shaft of approximately 198 cm (78 inches). You will need to assemble the parts yourself. All components, including rivets, are included. All necessary pins to connect the parts, including the metal strips running along the shaft and the leather tassels, are supplied.
