This cuirass and backplate are made after Italian originals from the late fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Armor like this was manufactured in Italy, but also used in other parts of Europe such as in Germany. Originals are exhibited in various museums, such as Castel Coira, but can also be seen in the visual arts such as the murals and paintings by Piero della Francesca from the fifteenth century. The armor reaches approximately to the hips and offers good protection to the chest, abdomen, back and sides. The cuirass and the backplate can be fastened to each other with leather straps, the cuirass also has leather straps over the shoulders. The leather straps can be adjusted in size for an optimal fit.
