Product description
Rotella shields were primarily used during the Renaissance (16th–17th centuries). They were inspired by the round shields of classical antiquity, which appear frequently in Greek and Roman art. Several Spanish and Italian manuals, such as those by Di Grassi and Marozzo, explain how to use the rotella. These shields were used throughout Renaissance Europe and were often paired with a sidesword or spear.
This rotella is made of 1.4 mm thick steel. It is hand-hammered into shape, which may result in an uneven surface. The shield is carried using two leather straps and is lined on the back for additional comfort.
