Product description
This votive statue is a replica of a piece from the 2nd century AD, found in Hocscheid. It nowadays is part of the collection of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier. Small statues of Sirona were placed in house altars throughout the whole Roman empire.
In Celtic mythology, Sirona was the goddess of healing. She was mostly venerated in eastern and central Gaul and along the Limes along the Donau. She was associated with healing springs; her characteristics were snakes and eggs.
This staue is hand made from alabaster and is 25 cm high. Possibly these small statues were painted to give them a life like appearance.
