Product description

The Rosetta stone was found in 1799 by intelligence forces of the French army of Napoleon. The stone contains a text that was written in two languages in three different scripts. :
in Egyptian with Egyptian hieroglyphs, in Egyptian with the demotic script and in Greek with the Greek alphabet.
The text on the stone is a thanksgiving of the priests of Memphis to the king Ptolomaus V Epiphanes. It is estimated that the text was made on the 27th of March 196 BC. The stone has made an essential contribution to deciphing the Egyptian hieroglyphic script. It has also given us a fundamental insight in the Egyptian language.
This stone is made of plaster alabaster. It is minutely replicated and the text resembles the original. The stone can be hung to the wall with the hole on the back. It measures 34 x 28 cm.
