Product description
The shashka, Cherkessian for "long knife," is a saber of Caucasian origin that was adopted by the Russian army in the 19th century and eventually became the legendary weapon of the famous Cossacks. The most distinctive aspect of this saber was the hilt, which had no handguard and was equipped with a distinctive, downward-curved pommel. On horseback, the shashka was most effective due to its unique design, making it an excellent choice for cavalry. This beautiful piece is a replica of an original Soviet Cossack saber, model 1927, produced in 1934 at the Slatoust arms factory, USSR. During the Second World War, this type of NKVD shaschka was still used by the Red Army. The blade is made of EN45 spring steel and provided with an artificial patina to imitate signs of use. The finely detailed pommel is engraved with the initials C.C.C.P., a star and a hammer and sickle. On the crossguard, the markings and serial number that adorn the original artifact have been recreated as faithfully as possible. Both the pommel and crossguard are cast from brass and have an antique finish. The ribbed handle is made of wood. A bayonet with a length of approximately 50 cm for the so-called Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifle is included. This saber comes with a brown wooden/leather scabbard. The bayonet fitting, muzzle cap and baffle plate are made of brass with an antique finish.
