Product description
According to Herbert Schmidt’s classification, this buckler is a Type IB, featuring a round shape with tapering edges. A buckler is a small shield used in sword-and-shield combinations for close combat during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. While offering poor protection against arrows and projectiles, it was perfect for restricting an opponent’s movements at close range and deflecting attacks. The first depictions of this type of buckler appear in the early 14th-century Tower Manuscript, though these weapons were likely already in use in the 13th century. Bucklers like this remained in use until the 16th century.
This Windlass Steelcrafts buckler is ideal for Historical European Martial Arts. It is a larger-sized buckler suitable for virtually all battle scenarios. At the center of the buckler is an integrated boss with a diameter of 15.25 cm, allowing you to deflect strikes from other weapons. This buckler is hand-forged and has been given a unique antique finish through an acid bath. It features a wooden grip, providing a secure hold during sword fighting.
