Product description

Rotella shields were primarily used during the Renaissance (16th–17th centuries). They were inspired by the round shields of classical antiquity, frequently depicted in Greek and Roman art. There are various Spanish and Italian manuals, such as those by Di Grassi and Marozzo, explaining how to use the rotella. These shields were used throughout Renaissance Europe. The rotella was often paired with a side sword or a spear.

A beautiful replica from Windlass Steelcrafts. This rotella shield, with a diameter of 59 cm, is smaller and more manageable than full-sized shields. Due to the maneuverability of this smaller size and the ability to move faster, smaller shields were preferred by many soldiers. This shield is made from 18-gauge steel and features a leather grip on the back. Perfect for historical characters from the 16th–17th centuries and for sword fighting.
