Product description

A beautiful wooden knight’s shield, inspired by medieval shields of the Knights Templar. Perfect for medieval reenactment and cosplay from films such as Kingdom of Heaven and Arn the Knight Templar.

The knight’s shield, or heater shield, developed around the late 12th century from the Norman kite shield. Heater shields get their name from Victorian historians who associated the shape of this shield with a Victorian flat iron. These shields were significantly smaller than the earlier Norman kite shields, offering less protection to the left leg but being much more maneuverable. The Knights Templar used such shields in sword-and-shield combat. Due to their compact size, they were easy for mounted knights to carry and were also taken on the medieval crusades.

In the early 13th century, heater shields were used alongside the large Norman kite shields. Later, only heater shields and bucklers were used. These shields were carried on the battlefield until the 14th century and remained in use afterward for tournament purposes.

This shield has a black top and a white bottom. It is made of wood covered with canvas. You can even repaint it in the colors of your own coat of arms. It features adjustable arm straps and padded arm protection on the back. Perfect for home decoration and your own medieval armory. Also great for a medieval costume.
