Product description
This type of axe head is classified as Petersen Type M, better known as the famous “Dane axe.” The blade features a broad, very thin-forged, wedge-shaped, and flared cutting edge, often with yoke-like projections on either side of the eye. The head is relatively light due to the thin steel but has a large surface area. This is the classic Dane axe, which began appearing in larger numbers around 950 AD. It was used by elite warriors, such as huscarls, and was especially effective for attacking cavalry and breaking shield walls. Type M heads have been found across Scandinavia, England, and Eastern Europe.
This Viking axe is based on early medieval originals and examples used in series such as Vikings and The Last Kingdom. During the early Middle Ages, axes were an indispensable tool, used both as weapons and for everyday tasks such as chopping firewood or making repairs. This axe features a hand-forged finish and a wooden shaft adorned with various runic symbols. Both the shaft and the blade are decorated with leather bindings. A perfect accessory for Viking reenactment or Viking costumes.
