Product description

This type of axe head is classified as Petersen Type B. The blade features the characteristic “beard” shape, with a projecting lower section. Axes of this type are often found in contexts related to warfare. They were produced at least between approximately 800 and 900 AD, though possibly as early as the beginning of the 7th century.

The “beard” — the downward-extending part of the blade — provided a larger cutting surface without adding extra weight. This design allowed the user to grip the haft just behind the head for woodworking or carving. In combat, the beard also offered tactical advantages: it could be used to strike or pull away an opponent’s shield or weapon.

This huscarl skeggox is meticulously forged from high-quality 9260 carbon steel and tempered. It features a sturdy walnut haft.
