Product description
This replica Viking seax features a long blade with a thick spine. It looks very authentic and realistic because it is not fully polished; you can still see the oxidation layer and other marks left from the forging process. The polished grip is made of bone and decorated with Odin’s two ravens, Hugin and Munin. The scabbard is made of leather and adorned with a Norwegian knotwork motif and brass fittings. Decorations of Odin’s ravens are also featured on one side of the scabbard.
Dragons were the mythical variant of serpents and appear in the earliest myths of modern humans. As humanity spread, so too did dragon mythology across the world. In many Indo-European cultures, dragons play a prominent role in mythology. In Germanic and later Viking mythology, dragons were seen as all-destroying monsters, yet they also symbolized the evil beast that a hero must defeat. These two archetypes — the destroyer and the adversary of the hero — reinforce each other.
Raven symbols were likely associated with intelligence, strategy, knowledge, magic, and prophetic power. While the wolf represents cunning, aggression, and strength, the raven stands for thoughtfulness, insight, and the careful pursuit of goals. Both emphasize aspects of Germanic and Viking culture in different ways, coming together in the god Odin/Wodan, whose role was to safeguard the cosmic order.
