Product description
This classic Viking sword was designed as a tribute to Baldur, the son of Odin and Frigg. The leather grip is decorated with three runes that are most suitable for the Norse God: Courage, Protection and Power. The blade is made of high-quality carbon steel (1065) and is etched with runes that roughly translate as "Baldur". The leather scabbard has an integrated strap. The scabbard is covered with a layer of black suede and decorated with light brown leather. The top and bottom of the scabbard bear a Viking symbol for the sun, as Baldur was known as a shining light to all who knew him. In the pantheon of Norse deities, Baldur was the son of Odin and Frigg (thus a brother of Thor and Loki) and as such was destined to rule after Odin. Beloved by all gods except Loki (surprising?), Baldur is known as a figure who brings joy to all who share his company. Ancient Norse poetry describes Baldur's death as a tragedy and a harbinger of Ragnarok. Some scholars believe the name Baldur translates to "brave," so the rune of courage was added. In her attempt to save Baldur from harm, Frigg asked everything to never harm him (except mistletoe), so the rune of protection has also been added. Finally, Baldur was known for always being prepared for battle, so the rune of strength rounds it all out.
