This Battle-Ready Viking shield is painted with a characteristic symbol. The shield is depicted on a rune stone in Gotland in Stenkyrka (Lillbjärs III). The stone dates from the 9th-10th century AD. Symbolism as it can be seen in various Viking jewelry. In addition, Gotland is known for its 5th-6th century stones with sun motifs. That is why we think that the sign on this shield is a further development of this tradition. Viking shields like this one were used all over the Viking world.
