Product description

This buckle is based on various originals from the 9th and 10th century. The buckle is suitable for belts of 3 cm wide and is silver coloured

The buckle ends on each side with a stylized long-beaked birdës head, this was a popular motive in Viking art. The execution of this motive is typical for the Jellinge style which occurred from 890 to approx. 990. Typical for the Jellinge style are the so-called ribbon-animals, as depicted on this buckle. The ribbon-animals have a striped body and their heads are shown in profile with circular eyes.

The depiction of the animal in profile distinct the Jellinge style from the preceding Borre style, where the animals are shown en face.
