I have years of experience in Reenactment, Living History, and Experimental Archaeology. The hobby has never become boring because you constantly discover new things and can portray them. Social contacts within reenactment are eternal, and reenactors around the world are as close as family. But it is also very accessible to people starting the hobby. Here are some tips to start with reenactment.

1. Historical Period

You will do a lot of research and spend money on a specific period. Before you start, consider whether this period/culture truly suits you. Some reenactors are active in various historical periods.

2. Historically Accurate

Consider how historically accurate you want to be, or if you mainly want to express yourself in Reenactment battles. Not every reenactment group is equally precise about historical accuracy. The approach of your group should align with your approach.

3. Join a Weekend

If you have found a group where you can live out your passion, it is wise to first join for a few weeks. Usually, you can borrow clothing and equipment for a while.

4. Request a kit list

Many reenactment groups have specific requirements for how their historical clothing & accessories should look. This is, of course, all about historical accuracy. Therefore, ask for a kit list or handbook of the items they want to see.
