What is the best way to repair my LARP weapon?
LARP weapons and armors are built to withstand some impact, as that is ultimately their purpose. This does not mean they can be used indefinitely without incurring any damage.
Fortunately, most surface damage on LARP weapons is easy to repair. If the fiberglass core or foam is structurally damaged, surface repairs are not sufficient. Therefore, thoroughly inspect your LARP items for damages and the severity of the damage.
What do you need?
-Fine black sandpaper
-Glue
-Latex
-Water-soluble paint
-Brushes
-Talcum powder
-Cloth
-Silicone spray
How do you repair your LARP weapon or armor?
Step 1:
Use the black sandpaper to sand the damaged part of the item. If the latex layer is too damaged and a little sanding is not enough, you need to remove the latex layer completely. Wipe away the dust from sanding with a cloth when you are finished.
Step 2:
Use glue to repair the damage to your item. We recommend using LARP latex repair glue for this purpose, as this glue is specially made for such repairs. Allow the glue to cure completely.
Step 3:
Lightly sand the dried glue to remove any irregularities and protrusions. Wipe away the sanding dust with a cloth when you are finished.
Step 4:
When choosing your paint, ensure that it is water-soluble and flexible! Acrylic paint, for example, falls into this category. Oil-based paints and paints with copper particles will damage your latex and should not be used.
Mix your paint of choice with latex. Make sure not to use too large a quantity of paint relative to the latex, as this will make your latex gritty. If your latex is a bit too thick to apply evenly, you can mix in a small amount of water or ammonia solution. However, do not add too much, or the latex/paint mixture will become too runny.
Step 5:
Grab your brushes and start painting the part you have repaired. Paint multiple layers, not too thick, for a better latex coating. If the repair was done on an edge, pay extra attention to the edge, as it takes the most impact.
If you want to add some extra metallic shine to your item, you can apply some metallic paint/latex mixture with dry brushing after the base color has dried. To dry brush, you need a brush with completely dry bristles and only a small amount of paint. Wipe some of the paint off on kitchen paper or a piece of paper. Lightly brush along the edges and raised areas to add some light accents.
Step 6:
Once the paint and latex are completely dry, powder the item with talcum powder to seal the pores of the latex. Wipe off the excess talcum powder with a cloth. Give the weapon or armor a good layer of silicone spray to ensure that the latex does not dry out.
