There are many types of sword pommels. The pommel of a sword can be attached to the tang mounting plate in different ways. The tang is the thin part of the blade that extends into the handle. The pommel holds the handle and the blade together, ensuring it is securely fastened. It also indirectly provides extra balance in the sword.

Types of Sword Pommels

Screwed

The end of the tang construction is then threaded. The pommel is screwed onto the end. This is mainly done with cheaper or decorative swords.

Riveted

The pommel is attached to the end of the tang construction with a rivet. This method is very solid, which is why it is often used with Battle-Ready swords.

Soldered

In some cases, the pommel is soldered to the tang construction, which is similar to riveting and is mainly done with combat-ready swords.

Hardened

This means that the tang construction runs through the pommel. The top of the tang is heated and carefully hammered closed, then it expands.
