Product description
This sword is based on an original from the late 10th – early 11th century, found in the Thames in London. The sword is classified as Petersen type L. The original features the inscription INGELRII on the blade. Around the time this sword was in use, the Anglo-Saxon aristocracy employed Vikings as professional bodyguards, known as Huscarls. Swords like this were likely also used during the Battle of Hastings, although by 1066 these swords were already somewhat outdated.
This sword is 96 cm long, with a blade measuring 78.5 cm in length and up to 4.3 cm in width. The pommel and cross-guard are made of iron. The blunt blade is made of carbon steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 48–50 HRC. The wooden scabbard is covered with leather. The balance point is located 11 cm below the cross-guard.
