Product description
This is a replica of a one -sided sword from the mid -15th century. The original was dug up in France (probably at the location of the Battle of Castillon-La-Battaille in 1453). The one -sided sword belongs to a group of more than eighty swords that have been discovered at the same location and has been part of the collection of the Koninklijke Wapenfabriek, object number IX.2638 since 1984.
This medieval knight sword has a single -sided, thin and strikingly wide blade with a wedge -shaped cross -section and a false cut at the back of the blade. The quillons end in curly points, which were meant to stop the opponent's blade. The asymmetrical handle is located at the back of the blade and the stocky pommel with fragrance stopper ensures that the short handle is comfortable in the hand. This sword feels pleasantly agile and is surprisingly light compared to its extensive appearance.
This replica is made with a hand forged blade by a skilled blacksmith, made from modern 1080 carbon steel that is fully tempered and distal tapered for a good weight distribution. De Schede has a wooden core and is covered with leather. The point is reinforced with a brass sleeve, decorated with detailed recesses and a jerk. At the throat the leather rises and covers part of the pare bar. Including certificate and a cleaning cloth.
