Product description
The barbute is a type of sallet that was developed so the wearer did not need to use mail, a camail, or other neck protection with the helmet. Barbutes were produced from the beginning of the 15th century. This specific type of barbute emerged in the second half of the 15th century. It shows less resemblance to the traditional sallet than its predecessors and was likely strongly inspired by the Greek Corinthian helmets of classical antiquity.
During the Italian Renaissance, there was a particular interest in this period, which at the beginning of the 16th century even led to the all’antica armor style. The barbute grew increasingly popular during the Renaissance and spread throughout Europe. This helmet not only offered protection for the head but was also known for its comfort and excellent visibility, making it a favorite choice for many warriors and knights during the medieval period.
This barbute is based on originals from Italy. It features a T-shaped visor. The forward-projecting edges of the helmet provide protection for the cheeks and face while maintaining a full field of vision.
The helmet can be secured with the chin strap and includes a suede lining, allowing for a customized fit.
