Product description

In the early 1970s, around 80 medieval swords were found in the Dordogne, a river near the town of Castillon-la-Bataille, France. This find, known as the “Castillon Group”, consisted of several arming swords and longswords with very similar hilts. These swords are associated with the battle of Castillon, which was a decisive victory for the French and marked the end of the Hundred Years´ War (1337 – 1453) between France and England. These swords were either part of an English supply effort before the battle, or a transport of French battlefield loot afterwards. During transportation, the barge was wrecked and sank to the bottom of the river. The originals are now either on display in museums or in the possession of private collectors.

This sword is a reconstruction of one of these Castillon swords. It features a double-edged blade that tapers sharply towards the tip. The one-handed sword has a short fuller and the cutting edges are not sharpened. The black leather-wrapped wooden grip ends in a disk-shaped pommel with a raised, blue circular accent on both sides. The ends of the steel crossguard are bent towards the blade.

This sword comes complete with a blue wood-and-leather scabbard equipped with a steel chape and a beautiful sword belt made of sturdy black leather. The belt can be adjusted to various sizes thanks to pre-punched holes. This medieval sword is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
