Product description
The Cinqueda emerged in the late 15th and early 16th century during the Italian Renaissance. These daggers were likely derived from the Greco-Roman parazonium. The Cinqueda was thus clearly influenced by the Italian al antica style, which can be seen in helmets such as the barbute, burgonet, and closed helmets from this period. During this time, even the classical musculata and subarmalis were revived, with armor modeled after examples from classical antiquity. Originally, the parazonium was a symbol of divine power, and it is likely that the bearers of the Cinqueda were aware of this.
This Cold Steel Cinqueda is a replica of an elegant 16th-century Cinqueda, combined with the high quality craftsmanship of Cold Steel. In Renaissance Italy, the Cinqueda was primarily a parade weapon. Yet, alongside its elegance, it was also a formidable weapon in the narrow streets and alleys of Italy. Often richly decorated, this weapon was considered a family heirloom.
