Product description
This Viking sword is a replica of a 9th-century example found in Torshov (Gjerdrum), Norway.
The sword is classified as Petersen Type C, a type that was made in the second half of the 9th century. Around this time, Paris was raided by the Vikings, and Harald Fairhair consolidated his power, eventually leading to the formation of Norway. It was also the period when the Vikings navigated the Dnieper and Volga rivers, exerted their influence in Russia and Ukraine, and served as professional bodyguards (the Varangian Guard) in the Byzantine Empire.
Swords like this were used throughout Northern Europe in the 9th century, with originals found in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. The pommel of this example is triangular, which may have been the most common pommel type on Viking swords.
This sword features two cross-guards and a detachable pommel that is riveted to the upper cross-guard. The grip is wrapped in brown leather. The sword measures 96 cm in total length, with a 78.5 cm blade, and weighs approximately 1.6 kg. It is made of carbon steel with a hardness of 48–50 HRC.
It comes with a luxury scabbard made of wood covered in leather.
