Product description

This sword is based on a late 10th–early 11th century original discovered in Vammala, Finland. The original is now part of the collection of the Suomen Kansallismuseo (Finnish National Museum) in Helsinki. It is classified as an Oakeshott type Xa, originally a Frankish sword type that remained popular well into the 13th century. The blade of the original bears the inscription +NSOMEFECIT+, with three other swords bearing the same inscription also found in Finland.

This sword was used by the late Vikings, during the Norman Conquest of England, and throughout the First Crusades. It features a blunt blade made of EN45 spring steel, tempered to a hardness of approximately 48–50 HRC.
