Product description

This is a replica of a 4th century cavalry helmet that was found in Deurne (The Netherlands). Presumably the helmet was worn by Germanic auxiliae during the Late-Roman period. A Roman coin that was found next to the helmet dates from 319 AD. The helmet shows a lot of Germanic and even Persian influences. It probably was the helmet of a Germanic aristocrat.

The helmet is made of brass and is lined with red leather. It is provided with a short neck plate, it has a nose piece and two cheek plates. It is decorated with styled motives that were mainly used in Northern Europe around this period. The Deurne helmet is suitable for a head circumference up to 61 cm. It weighs approximately 3 kg.
