Product description

This type of sallet originated in 1370–1390 in northern Italy. Sallets like this were worn throughout Europe and became very popular because they offered an optimal field of vision and hearing, unlike the fully closed sallet. They are depicted, for example, on the silver altarpiece of Pistoia.

From around 1419, this style of sallet was also worn in France, then from 1425 in Germany and Austria, and by 1431 in England. Later in the 15th century, this type of sallet became especially popular among archers, crossbowmen, and infantry.
